Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus had closed-door discussions with the two student advisers of the interim government and National Citizen Party (NCP) convener Nahid Islam on Thursday evening amid some fast developments.

They discussed "issues related to the current political situation", sources inside the NCP, the recently floated political platform of a section of the July protesters, told the FE after the meeting held at the state guesthouse Jamuna.

The meeting with Nahid took place at around 7.30pm, preceded by another one the CA had with two advisers of his council: Mahfuj Alam and Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan.

Mahfuj and Asif were also among the student leaders who led the July mass upsurge that resulted in the fall of the regime of Sheikh Hasina on August 5, 2024.

These meetings behind the closed doors took place a day after the much-talked-about meeting of the army commanders where the army chief reportedly suggested holding national elections by next December.

The meeting between the CA and these three student leaders also has drawn huge public attention as the BNP, now the main political party of the country, has been demanding resignation of the two student advisers - Mahfuj and Asif- for the last couple of days.
