Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal on Wednesday requested the Chief Justice (CJ) to ensure that the lower court judges perform their duties even during the annual vacation in December this year so that they can handle the election matters smoothly.
He told this to the reporters after a courtesy meeting with Chief Justice Obaidul Hassan at the Supreme Court on Wednesday afternoon.
The CEC said, “The Judges perform the duties of the Electoral Inquiry Committee in the Parliamentary elections. But this time, prior to the election (in December), the civil court judges are scheduled to go on vacation.
Therefore, I have informed the Chief Justice that the judges should not refrain from their duties during this critical period of the year. And in the month of January, the judges will also perform their duties as usual.”
Chief Justice Obaidul Hassan is said to have assured the CEC of his request.
Earlier in the day, the Chief Election Commissioner and other commissioners came to the Supreme Court to have a courtesy meeting with the Chief Justice.
