A cold wave is sweeping over six districts, including Rajshahi, Pabna, and Naogaon, as Bangladesh nears the end of the Bengali month of Magh, according to the Met Office.
The situation is likely to persist through Sunday, Meteorologist Muhammad Abul Kalam Mallik said on Saturday.
"The cold wave will continue tomorrow, but it is unlikely to spread further," he told bdnews24.com.
However, he forecast a gradual rise in temperatures across the country from Monday.
According to the Met Office’s regular bulletin, a mild cold wave is affecting Rajshahi, Pabna, Naogaon, Dinajpur, Moulvibazar, and Chuadanga.
A cold wave is classified as severe when temperatures drop below 6 degrees Celsius, moderate when they range between 6 and 8 degrees, and mild when they stay between 8 and 10 degrees.
As of 6 am on Saturday, the lowest temperature in the country was recorded at 8.5 degrees Celsius in Moulvibazar’s Srimangal.
The bulletin also predicted that nighttime temperatures would remain nearly unchanged across the country, while daytime temperatures might drop slightly in the next 24 hours from 9 am on Saturday.
Light to moderate fog is expected nationwide from late night to early morning.
