Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) has implemented development projects at a cost of Taka 40,210 million in nine upazilas of the district in the last 15 years, according to officials of Khulna LGED.
The projects which were completed during the 2009-2023 fiscal year are 2,502 km of roads at a cost of Tk 19,030 crore and 704 km of roads which were maintained at a cost of Tk 5970 million, the officials said, as per BSS reports.
The upazilas are Rupsha, Paikgachha, Batiaghata, Fultala, Dakope, Terokhada, Digholia, Dumuria and Koyra.
The other projects completed during the period are 107 bridges and culverts at a cost of Taka 8750 million, the construction of 7 Upazila Parishad Complex at a cost of Tk 510 million, the construction of 8 Upzilla Server Station at a cost of Tk 100 million, 33 Union Parishad Complex at a cost of Tk 360 million, 42 hut-bazar-ghat and growth centre at a cost of Tk 330 million, construction of 83 cyclone centre at a cost of Tk 1,520 million, construction of 507 primary schools and extension of classroom at Tk 1,510 million.
The projects of rural development include development of water resources on 8,450 acres of land at a cost of Tk 190 million, 65 km canal digging at a cost of Tk 80 million, maintenance of 16 regulators at a cost of Tk 7.1 million, construction of 4 km barrage at a cost of Tk 3.580 million.
A total of 10 Upzila construction of Muktijoddha Complexes, 24 residences for freedom fighters at a cost of Tk 350 million, and maintenance of 7 historical places, museums, and 6 Freedom Fighters Memorials of Liberation War at a cost of Tk 60 million.
Besides, a total of 22 land offices in cities and unions were built at a cost of Tk 210 million.
Construction of the District Shilpakala Academy building and Muktomoncho were built at a cost of Tk 18.1 million.
A total of 175 religious establishments including mosques, temples, and crematoriums were built at a cost of Tk 60 million.
Apart from these, the excavation of 39 ponds and canals were dug at a cost of TK 80 million, and construction of one Urban Primary Health Care Service Center was built at a cost of Tk 80 million and a social safety net at a cost of Tk 960 million.
When contacted executive engineer of Khulna LGED A K M Anisuzzaman told BSS today, that around 20 running projects involving a cost of Tk 661 crore will be completed in the current fiscal year.
Terming the LGED as a pioneer development project implementing entity at present, he said at least 10 goals out of 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs) are connected to LGED's activities.
Now, the country is on the highway of development and LGED is playing a vital role in taking the nation forward, he added.
