A tense calm has settled over the Chittagong University campus after violent clashes between students and locals left more than 200 people injured.
On Monday, academic activities were suspended for a second day, leaving the campus unusually quiet.
The normally crowded faculties and student hangouts stood nearly empty, though administrative work continued on schedule.
Army personnel were seen stationed near the campus Shaheed Minar.
No case had been filed over the violence as of Monday morning, said Abu Mohammad Kausar Hossain, chief of Hathazari Police Station.
“Neither party has filed a case yet. There have been no arrests or detentions,” he told bdnews24.com.
University officials, however, said preparations were being made to lodge a case.
Acting Registrar Mohammad Saiful Islam said a committee would also be formed to investigate the violence.
He expressed hope that academic activities could resume on Tuesday.
The clashes began on Saturday night after a female student was slapped by the security guard of a house she rented after she returned “late”.
When classmates protested, tensions escalated into confrontations that spilt into Sunday.
Students and residents of Jobra village, which borders the campus, chased one another in repeated bursts of violence.
More than 200 people were hurt in the attacks, including students, members of the proctorial body and even the vice chancellor.
Officials also said they were examining whether activists from the Chhatra League and Jubo League were involved in the violence.
Authorities imposed Section 144, banning public gatherings at the university and its surrounding areas on Sunday
Classes and examinations remained suspended for a second day on Monday.
