Three bodies were recovered on Monday after a landslide caused a hill to collapse onto a house in Sylhet city.

The three trapped by the landslide were found in the Chamelibag area of Ward No. 35 around 1:00 pm, said Mohammad Harunur Rashid Chowdhury, chief of Shahparan Police Station.

The dead were identified as Karim Uddin, 31, his wife Shammi Akhtar Ruji, 25, and 15-month-old son Nafzi Tanim, according to bdnews24.com.

Fire Service Deputy Director Md Moniruzzaman confirmed that the bodies had been recovered.

“Looking at the three people who were recovered from the house buried by the hill collapse, it seems they have died,” said Jahangir Alam, councillor of Ward No. 35. “They are not moving. They were trapped under the landslide for a long time, so it seems that they are dead. They were a husband, wife and their 15-month-old son.”

Heavy rain triggered the landslide around 6am on Monday, Jahangir had previously said.

Two families lived in the house, he had said.

“Six people from two families were trapped in the landslide,” he said. “The police, Fire Service and [the local administration] went to the scene and were able to recover three members of a family in healthy condition.”

The three others were trapped under the landslide and their bodies were later recovered.
