A man and his wife have died after being electrocuted while trying to turn on an electric motor in Kapasia upazila of Gazipur.
The incident occurred on Friday afternoon in Barishab Union's Seldia village, according to Kapasia Police Station Sub-Inspector Abdul Halim.
The victims were identified as Mohammad Shahidullah Bhuiyan, 55, and Ferdousi Akhter, 40, both natives of the same village, reports bdnews24.com.
According to police and family members, Shahidullah had set up an electric motor to drain water from a small pond near his house for fishing. When he attempted to switch it on, he suffered an electric shock. Seeing this, his wife Ferdousi rushed to help him but was also electrocuted.
Both were critically injured and were being taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital when they succumbed to their injuries.
SI Halim said that the bodies have been brought to the police station and legal procedures are currently underway.
