Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has inaugurated the rail line from Chattogram’s Dohazari to Cox’s Bazar and an iconic oyster-shaped railway station in Cox's Bazar.

The 102 km-long single-line dual gauge rail line and the railway station in Jhilongja were inaugurated through a programme in the beach town on Saturday morning.

Later, the premier flagged off a train and started a trip by it from Cox's Bazar Railway Station to Ramu Railway Station.

According to bdnews24.com, Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to inaugurate the channel of Matarbari Deep Seaport in Cox’s Bazar’s Moheshkhali and launch the construction of the port’s terminal in the afternoon.

She will also inaugurate the 1,200-megawatt coal-fired power plant in Matarbari and a project to connect Kutubdia island to the national grid by submarine cable.

Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to address a public rally organised by the local unit of Awami League at Moheshkhali's Matarbari in the afternoon.

The new railway line connects Cox's Bazar to the rail network, making it easier to travel by train directly from Dhaka to Cox's Bazar via Dohazari and Ramu.

Travellers will get the opportunity to reach Cox’s Bazar by train from December 1.

In the future, the Chattogram-Cox's Bazar railway line will be connected with the Matarbari deep sea port.
