The government is going to launch a software on trial basis for submitting bail bonds online as part of its ongoing judicial reforms, Law Adviser Asif Nazrul said on Thursday.

Speaking at a press conference at the Secretariat, he said the software will soon be rolled out to make the bail process more accessible to litigants.

Outlining the reforms carried out over last one year under the government, he said, “To fulfil the aspirations of the July people’s uprising, the Law Ministry has taken various steps, including legal and institutional reforms, digitisation, withdrawal of politically motivated cases and routine administrative measures.”

Highlighting progress in case disposal, the adviser noted that 50 percent of files in the Law and Justice Division have been processed through the e-filing system.

On politically motivated cases, he said committees at the district level, along with the Law and Justice Division, reviewed relevant documents and recommended the withdrawal of over 15,000 such cases. These include 408 speech-related cybercrime cases and 752 cases against students and citizens who participated in last year’s protests.

Asif said a new ordinance has been issued for appointing Supreme Court judges through an independent Judicial Council, based on merit and equal opportunity.

The Women and Children Repression Prevention Act and Power of Attorney Rules have been amended, allowing Bangladeshi-origin individuals abroad to complete power of attorney procedures without a Bangladeshi passport, he informed.

He also mentioned the repeal of repressive clauses from the old CyberSecurity Act and the passage of the new Cyber Security Ordinance, 2025 in coordination with the ICT Ministry.

Moreover, gender-discriminatory provisions in the marriage registration rules have been removed, the adviser said.

As part of digitisation efforts, new rules for the judicial service and court appointments have been introduced and information and service centres have been set up in all court premises to ensure better access to justice for the public.
