Police foil protest over holding tax hike in Ctg

Police personnel resisted the leaders of Kor Data Shurokka Parishad (Tax Payer Safety Porishod) in front of Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) when they tried to besiege the CCC office as a part of their protest programme on Wednesday.

The leaders of Kor Data Shurokka Porishad along with hundreds of city dwellers went to the CCC office to besiege it. But, the CCC officials locked the office in the morning and informed the law enforcers. Later, the police resisted the procession of Kor Data Shurokka Parishad at Tiger Pass Point adjacent to CCC office in the morning.

Besides, Jubo League and Chhatra League activists also gathered at the CCC office to resist the protesters.

However, four leaders of Kor Data Shurokka Parishad including its president Nurul Absar went to the Chief Executive Officer of CCC Mohammed Touhidul Islam and submitted a memorandum in absence of CCC Mayor in its office at around 12:30 pm.

Although the review committee of CCC is solving the appeals of the tax payers, the dissatisfaction is increasing over the increased holding tax.

Meanwhile, the Kor Data Shurokka Parishad (Tax Payer Safety Parishod) along with the city dwellers is protesting the increased holding tax. They also alleged that the incumbent mayor of Chattogram fixed the holding tax as per his wish violating the law.
