Curtain falls on Ekushey Book Fair, books worth Tk 470m sold in 27 days

The month-long Amar Ekushey Book Fair 2023 came to an end on Tuesday. Publishers sold books worth Tk 470 million at the fair till February 27.

Muzahidul Islam, member secretary of Ekushey Book Fair Organising Committee, gave the information at the closing ceremony of the book fair at Bangla Academy on Tuesday, reports UNB.

He said as per the provisional data books worth Tk 470 million were sold till Monday, of which books worth Tk 12.4 million were sold on February 27.

However, it cannot be called a real image. Because many pavilions did not provide their sales information.

“Again, the book sales information of many pavilions was not acceptable,” he said.

The member secretary of the fair committee also said that books were sold at a 25 per cent discount in this book fair.

He also said around 3,750 new books were published during the fair.

According to Archway calculations, 6.35 million visitors have come to this year's book fair till February 26, Muzahid said.

A BSS report said a concluding function was held on fair premises around 5:00 pm on the day.

State Minister for Cultural Affairs K M Khalid, attended the function as the chief guest while Director General of Bangla Academy poet Mohammad Nurul Huda gave the address of welcome on the occasion.

Bangla Academy President Selina Hossain presided over the function.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina opened the month-long book fair on the premises of the Bangla Academy and the Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital on February 1 last.
