A three-member delegation of the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, led by DB chief Mohammad Harun-or-Rashid, went to Kolkata to investigate the murder of Jhenaidah-4 MP Anwarul Azim Anar.
The delegation left for Kolkata on Sunday morning. The other two members are Wari Division DC Muhammad Abdul Ahad and ADC Shahidur Rahman.
The DB chief at the airport said an application would be made through the Inspector General of Police to extradite Shaheen, the prime suspect of the murder, from the USA. Assistance would also be sought from Interpol in this regard, he added.
He also said that the detectives in Dhaka and Kolkata have confirmed that Shaheen is the mastermind of the murder.
Meanwhile, the West Bengal Crime Investigative Department (CID) is considering bringing the 'plotter' of the murder, Aktaruzzaman Shaheen, back to India from the US.
A senior official of the West Bengal CID, speaking on condition of anonymity, told the media that Bangladesh does not have an extradition treaty with the US, but India does. So, the authorities plan to bring Shaheen to India, as the crime occurred in West Bengal.
