A part of the long-awaited Dhaka Elevated Expressway (DEE) will be opened for traffic movement in September allowing all four-wheelers to use the first expressway in the city.

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader gave the information at the Tejgaon Point of DEE after driving through the elevated expressway along with a motorcade on Saturday.

He said the DEE from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport to Kutubdiakhali of the Dhaka-Chattogram highway will facilitate easy movement of highway traffic and lessen the city's traffic congestion.

“In September, the DEE's part from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport to Farmgate will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina,” he added.

Bridge Secretary M Monjur Hossain and Project Director AHMS Aktar were present.

The overall progress of DEE from Kawla to Tejgaon was recorded at over 90 per cent while the entire project was 63 per cent.
