Dengue claims six lives, infects 1,818 more

Six dengue patients died and 1,818 were admitted to various hospitals in the country during 24 hours until 8 am Sunday.

The total number of deaths due to dengue has now reached 1,333, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Out of the new fatalities, three were from Dhaka, bringing the total number of deaths in Dhaka to 805.

Meanwhile, out of the 1,818 people admitted to hospitals, 355 were from Dhaka.

The dengue situation, which is getting worse, showed that a growing number of cases were from outside Dhaka.

Of the new cases of hospitalizations, 1,463 were reported from outside Dhaka.

According to the daily update from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the total number of dengue cases this year rose to 267,680. Out of the total, 98,382 were from Dhaka.

The number of fatalities and hospitalisations due to this deadly mosquito-borne disease is the highest in the country in the last 23 years.

The World Health Organization (WHO) stated that dengue appears to coincide with the rainy season from May to September and higher temperatures in Bangladesh.

A total of 6,803 people are currently being treated in hospitals across the country. Out of them, 1,884 are from Dhaka. Out of the total number of admitted patients, 259,544 have recovered and returned home, including 95,693 from Dhaka, with an average recovery rate of 97 percent.

Last year, 281 people died due to dengue, which is the second highest number. On September 20 this year, Bangladesh witnessed 21 dengue deaths, the highest in a single day this year, and the nation also saw the same highest figure on September 2.
