Bangladesh continues to battle dual public health concerns as two more deaths - one from dengue and one from Covid-19, were reported in the 24 hours ending Sunday morning, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
With the latest fatalities, the total number of deaths caused by dengue this year has reached 30, while the Covid-19 death toll stands at four for 2025.
During the reporting period, 249 fresh dengue cases were detected across the country, taking the total number of dengue infections this year to 5,988. Among the new cases, Barisal Division reported the highest number, with 134 infections.
Chattogram Division (outside city corporations) recorded 39 new cases, while Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) reported 35 cases.
Nine cases were identified in Dhaka Division (outside city corporations), and eight in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC).
Currently, 659 dengue patients are undergoing treatment at different hospitals nationwide.
Meanwhile, the Covid-19 situation remains under close observation.
During the same 24-hour period, 26 new coronavirus cases were reported, bringing the total confirmed infections to 2,051,833.
Four patients recovered during this period, raising the total number of recoveries to 2,019,405, DGHS sources confirmed.
Public health experts have urged authorities to continue robust surveillance and preventive measures to contain the spread of dengue, particularly with the ongoing monsoon season contributing to the increase in mosquito breeding grounds.
They also stressed the importance of maintaining vigilance against Covid-19 through testing, vaccination, and public awareness.
The health authorities have advised citizens to seek medical attention promptly if they experience symptoms related to either dengue or Covid-19 and to strictly follow preventive measures to avoid further transmission of these diseases.
