Three more people have died of dengue in the past 24 hours, taking the toll from the Aedes mosquito-borne disease to 250.
Hospitals in Bangladesh have admitted 1,039 new dengue patients in a day, raising the tally of infections since Jan 1 to 50,919.
The Directorate General of Health Services, or DGHS, said as many as 403 were hospitalised in Dhaka among the new dengue patients until Monday morning.
In addition, 200 were hospitalised in the Dhaka Division, 31 in the Mymensingh Division, 149 in the Chattogram Division, 101 in the Khulna Division, 51 in the Rajshahi Division, 24 in the Rangpur Division, 77 in the Barishal Division, and three in the Sylhet Division.
As many as 3,818 patients are currently undergoing treatment for dengue in hospitals across the country. They include 1,816 in the capital and 2,002 outside Dhaka.
The DGHS has been keeping records of dengue hospitalisations and deaths since 2000.
Since then, a record 321,179 dengue hospitalisations have been logged in 2023. The highest 1,705 people also died of the disease that year.
