The dengue situation in the country is deteriorating further, as three more people died of the mosquito-borne disease during a 24-hour period until Monday morning, when an additional 492 patients were hospitalised.
However, the situation with Covid-19 appears to be more manageable, with only 11 positive cases reported out of 334 samples diagnosed during the same period.
With the latest dengue cases resulting in fatalities and hospitalizations, the total death toll for this year has reached 48, and the total number of hospitalizations is now at 12,763, according to the daily bulletin issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The official data also revealed that unlike previous years, dengue situation this year is more severe outside Dhaka as all the life-losses took place in other divisions and as well as most of the hospitalisation. A five year old girl fell victim to the deadly disease at Khulna Medical College Hospital, while two people including one female aged 18 years and a male patient aging 35 years died in Sher-E-Bangla Medical College Hospital in Barishal.
In addition to two deaths occurred, Barishal division also logged the highest number of hospitalisation-154, followed by 69 in Dhaka division excluding the capital, 61 in Rajshahi, 54 in Khulna, 53 in Dhaka South, 51 in Chattogram, and 36 in Dhaka North.
First week of July has already recorded countrywide 2,467 cases of hospitalisation for dengue treatment which is proportionately much higher than previous months.
June reported 5,951 cases while the figure was 1,773 in May.
