Dhaka-Narayanganj train service resumes after eight months

Train movement on the Dhaka-Narayanganj route resumed on Tuesday after a halt of nearly eight months with the introduction of eight pairs of commuter trains at higher fares.

The rail track was veered off on December 4 for carrying out development work for the project of Padma Bridge rail link from Dhaka to Gandaria.

Bangladesh Railway issued a circulation on the increase of fares to Tk30 from Tk15 showing ground of introducing commuter trains instead of normal trains.

Sources said some 16 pairs of trains used to operate between the two cities which came down to nine though passengers' demand is high.

Train movement between the cities takes 45 minutes while travelling on the road takes over an hour during traffic jam.

According to officials, train movement to and from Dhaka and port city of Narayanganj continues from 5 am with an interval of almost an hour every day.

The last train from Dhaka departs at 8:30pm and from Narayanganj at 9:35 pm.

Trains from Dhaka will start at 5:00am, 7:10am, 9:20am, 11:30am, 1:40pm, 4:10pm, 6:20pm and 8:30pm and from Narayanganj at 6:05am, 8:15am, 10:25am, 12:35pm, 2:45pm, 5:15pm, 7:25pm and 9:35pm.
