The Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) launched on Wednesday the country's first "smart on-street parking" in a bid to ensure discipline and safe parking.
The "smart on street parking" includes a smart parking app and a parking card, were also launched by the DNCC at a function at the Nagar Bhaban in Gulshan.
DNCC Mayor Md. Atiqul Islam presided over the opening ceremony while Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal attended as a chief guest.
DNCC has taken the move to stop illegal parking in collaboration with Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), the Law and Order Coordination Council (LOCC) and in partnership with Mastercard Bangladesh and Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC, according to a media statement.
Islami Bank Managing Director Mohammad Monirul Moula, Mastercard Bangladesh's Country Manager Syed Mohammad Kamal, among others, were present at the inauguration programme.
The country's first smart parking card will facilitate an easier, faster, and more convenient payment option for vehicle parking at DNCC's 11 designated parking zones in the capital's Gulshan area.
This parking app called 'DNCC Smart Parking' can be downloaded from the Google Play Store and App Store.
Only cardholders will pay the fee at parking spots without cash, and vehicle owners will simply tap Mastercard 'Smart Parking Card' at the point of sale (POS). This card will be available at Islami Bank's Banani, Gulshan-1, and Gulshan-2 branches and wardens at the parking locations.
