Doctors at Dhaka’s Mugda Medical College Hospital have come under attack twice during the ongoing ‘complete shutdown’ programme at healthcare facilities across Bangladesh.

According to SM Hasibul Islam, the hospital’s director, a group of outsiders armed with sharp weapons attacked the doctors around 3:15pm on Sunday.

Hasibul told about the incident but could not specify the exact motive behind the attack.

“A doctor informed me that they had been attacked, and they had to lock themselves in for safety,” said Hasibul.

When asked about the reason for the attack, he said: “As far as I know, no patient’s relatives attacked today [Sunday].”

Intern doctors went to put up a banner in support of the complete shutdown programme called by Dhaka Medical College Hospital. They locked the hospital gate,” he added.

Then, some ‘outsiders’ attacked them and forced the gate open.
