Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday told the parliament that the dollar crisis has eased and the country’s exports are more or less on track.

Responding to a supplementary question raised by JP lawmaker Mujibul Huq Chunnu during the prime minister’s question hour, Sheikh Hasina said that due to the pandemic and the Ukraine War, the country had faced a severe dollar crisis, which caused problems for us.

“And this compelled us to be cautious in public spending but now the crisis eased,” she added.

The prime minister also mentioned that the government has enhanced monitoring on the opening of LC as previously many importers cited inflated prices while importing goods.

The situation has changed after the monitoring, as banks are checking the prices of the products through the Bloomberg index before approving LCs, she added.

The prime minister mentioned that the exports of the country was not that much affected.

The rich countries who are importing from us are hit by inflation and people in those countries slash their consumption. This led to a slight fall in exports, she explained.

She also said that the government has initiated a string of measures to explore new export destinations and to diversify the exports.
