The six-month prison sentence for Nobel Laureate Dr Muhammad Yunus has been annulled by the Labor Appellate Tribunal in a case concerning alleged violations of labour law. The ruling has also scrapped the sentences for three other top officials of Grameen Telecom.

Judge MA Awal of the Labour Appellate Tribunal issued the order on Wednesday. Barrister Abdullah Al-Mamun represented Dr Yunus during the hearing.

On September 9, 2021, Arifuzzaman, an inspector of the Department of Factories and Establishments (DIFE), filed a case against Dr Muhammad Yunus and three others at the Third Labour Court in Dhaka.

Earlier this year, on January 1, Judge Sheikh Marina Sultana of the Dhaka Third Labour Court handed down the verdict sentencing the four individuals.
