Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) continued its drive to remove the makeshift shops at the site of Bangabazar Shopping Complex for the second consecutive day on Tuesday.
As the DSCC has planned to construct a shopping complex at Bangabazar, it started eviction drive on Monday, and about one-third of the makeshift shops were dismantled using excavators in the market, which was destroyed in a
massive fire on April 4 last year, reports BSS.
Earlier, DSCC Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh announced that the corporation would start construction work of the complex after Eid-ul-Fitr.
DSCC Public Relations Officer and Spokesperson Abu Nasher said that the corporation gave notice to all shop owners before Eid for the construction of the market.
He hoped that the eviction drive would be completed by Wednesday.
The shop owners requested the DSCC authorities to take necessary steps to complete the construction of the market on the site quickly for the sake of the affected businesspeople.
