DU expels 8 students over lynching youth

The Dhaka University (DU) authorities on Saturday suspended the residential accommodations of eight students on charge of lynching a youth named Tofazzal at Fazlul Haque Muslim Hall and temporarily expelled them from the university.

In addition, Professor Dr Shah Md Masum was removed from the provost post of Fazlul Haque Muslim Hall and he was replaced by Md Elias Al-Mamun.

This information was provided in a notification sent by the university's public relations office on Saturday.

The accused students include Jalal Mia from the Department of Physics (2018-19 session); Moha-mmad Suman from the Department of Soil, Water and Environment (2020-21 session); Mottakin Sakin from the Institute of Nutrition and Food Science (2020-21 session); Al Hossain Sajjad from the Department of Geography and Environment; Ahsan Ullah from the Depart-ment of Mathematics (2018-19 session), and Wazibul Alam.

These six students have  already been handed over to the police by the university authorities.

The other two students are Mohammad Firoz Kabir from the Department of Plant Science (2020-21 session) and Mohammad Abdus Samad from the Department of Physics.
