DUCSU ELECTION: Nomination paper collection begins, voter list published

Collection of nomination papers for the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) election began on Tuesday (August 12). Candidates can collect forms between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm until August 18 from the Chief Returning Officer's Office, located on the third floor of the Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Building. The nomination papers must be submitted by August 19.
Dhaka University Public Relations Office provided the information through a press release on Monday night. It stated that candidates for the hall unions can collect and submit their nomination papers within the same timeframe. Each nomination paper will cost Tk 300.
According to the DUCSU code of conduct, the candidates are not allowed to hold any rally or showdown while collecting or submitting nomination papers. They can be accompanied by a maximum of five supporters.
Meanwhile, the university authorities published the final voter list for the polls. The list included a total of 39,775 voters, comprising 20,871 male voters and 18,902 female voters.
The list was finalised after resolving the objections regarding the draft list, based on recommendations of the review committee and following approval of the vice-chancellor. The final voter list is available on the notice boards of all residential halls and on the DUCSU official website (ducsu.du.ac.bd).
Among female voters, Rokeya Hall has 5,641, Shamsunnahar Hall 4,084, Bangladesh-Kuwait Maitree Hall 2,103, Kabi Sufia Kamal Hall 4,434, and Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall 2,640.
Among male voters, Amar Ekushey Hall has 1,295, Kabi Jasimuddin Hall 1,303, Jagannath Hall 2,222, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall 1,606, Dr. Muhammad Shahidullah Hall 1,998, Fazlul Huq Muslim Hall 1,762, Bijoy Ekattor Hall 2,027, Muktijoddha Ziaur Rahman Hall 1,749, Shaheed Sergeant Zahurul Haque Hall 1,957, Salimullah Muslim Hall 664, Surja Sen Hall 1,499, Sir A. F. Rahman Hall 1,377, and Haji Muhammad Mohsin Hall 1,402.
The draft voter list, published on July 30, had 39,932 voters' names, of which 157 were deleted in the final list. The Election Commission stated that even after publication of the list, the names of expelled students or those facing legal charges may still be removed, if credible evidence is presented.
Voting for the DUCSU and hall union elections will take place on September 9.
