Each family of the slain martyrs will receive an initial compensation of Tk 500,000, while injured ones will receive up to Tk 100,000.
This decision was made during the first meeting of the executive committee of the July Shaheed Smriti Foundation, held on Wednesday at the State Guest House Jamuna, chaired by Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus.
Compensation for the injured will be disbursed as soon as possible, and checks for the families of the martyrs will be distributed at a commemorative event in the capital, according to a spokesperson for the chief adviser.
The committee, led by the chief adviser, has called on all segments of society, including the Bangladeshi diaspora, organisations, and businesses, to contribute to the Foundation.
The committee also decided to secure an office space and recruit volunteers to run its operations. Additionally, the Foundation will work to preserve and archive video footage, images, oral histories, and other documents related to the July-August mass uprising.
Professor Yunus emphasised the importance of documenting all donations, regardless of size, and suggested that donor names be published on the Foundation's website.
"This foundation is an important milestone. We must strive hard to make it a success," the chief adviser said.
He also noted that the health ministry will cover the medical expenses of the injured, with the Foundation’s compensation serving as an additional support.
Advisers of the Interim Government Sharmeen Murshid, Nahid Islam and Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan, general secretary of the Foundation Mir Mahbubur Rahman Singdho and the treasurer of the Foundation, Kazi Waqar Ahmad were present in the meeting.
