The Editors’ Council has expressed deep concern and protest over a statement made by the Police Service Association regarding journalism.
In a statement signed by President Mahfuz Anam, editor of The Daily Star, and General Secretary Dewan Hanif Mahmud, editor of Bonik Barta, the council aired its concerns and protests on Sunday.
They also described the association's remarks as an ‘inappropriate and unreasonable response to free and impartial journalism’.
The council suggested that if there are doubts about the responsibilities of those who published reports about some former and current police officials, the proper procedure would be to approach the Press Council.
The statement concluded by expressing the council's hope for police cooperation in the media's continued efforts to support the government's anti-corruption policies.
