When the upcoming election will be held, it is a political decision, not a government decision, Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus has said.

He made the statement in an address to the nation on Sunday.

He said that it needs reforms in the country to make it equitable for all.

As part of these reforms, Mr Yunus announced that the Election Commission will also be reformed to ensure a fair and ideal election.

Mr Yunus mentioned that students are the primary appointing authority of the interim government and that people have supported their appointment.

He said that the interim government would remain as long as it will be supported by students and people.

Earlier in the day, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said their party is willing to allow the interim government reasonable time, not an indefinite period, to hold a credible election by reforming the institutions.
