Ex-MP Fazle Karim Chowdhury lands in jail

The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) on Sunday sent former MP ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhury to jail on charges of committing crimes against humanity including mass killing during July-August uprising.

The tribunal led by Md. Golam Mortuza Majumder passed the order after he was produced before the court.

The court also fixed April 8 for submission of a progress report and the next hearing.

Prosecutors BM Sultan Mahmud, Gazi Monowar Hossain Tamim, Abdus Sobhan Tarafdar, Tarek Abdullah, and Tanvir Hasan Joha were present.

Earlier on February 5, the ICT directed that Fazle Karim Chowdhury be brought before the tribunal on February 16.

Prosecutor Gazi MH Tamim said that between July 1 and August 5, ordered by ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhury attacks and killings were carried out in various areas including Raozan.

Many people were also injured during these attacks.

Fazle Karim Chowdhury was arrested on September 12 while attempting to flee to India through the Akhaura border in Brahmanbaria.
