A Dhaka court on Wednesday sent to jail former lawmaker from Kushtia-1 constituency AKM Sarwar Jahan Badsha in a case lodged over the murder of electrician Ilias Hossain in the capital’s Mohammadpur area during the July-August mass uprising.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Minhazur Rahman passed the order as police produced the accused before the court and pleaded to keep him behind bars, reports BSS.
AKM Sarwar Jahan Badsha was arrested from Basila area under Mohammadpur Police Station in the city on June 17 last.
Electrician Ilias Hossain joined an anti-discrimination student rally in front of Allah Karim Mosque in Mohammadpur on August 4, 2024. The rally came under attack and Ilias got shot on his head. He was rushed to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on August 9 last year.
Ilias’s father filed the case on September 28, 2024.
Meanwhile, the same court today sent Awami League (AL) leader Kamal Khan to jail in a murder attempt case filed over crimes committed during the July-August mass uprising.
