Several gangs are now actively involved in providing fake corona testing certificates to people, who need those for going abroad or getting admitted into hospitals.
On Monday, a team of RAB-3, led by its Commanding Officer (CO) Lt Colonel Rakibul Hasan, nabbed a gang, whose members were engaged in supplying fake corona negative and positive certificates.
Talking to the FE, Mr Hasan said they have intelligence reports that such criminal gangs are active around the hospitals, which are authorised for corona testing.
According to the RAB official, this gang sold some fake corona negative certificates in exchange of minimum Tk 5,000 each to outbound Bangladeshis, who needed to go abroad during the corona pandemic.
"We will continue our drives to find out such criminal gangs," he added.
However, the major clients of these fake certificates are people, who need to be admitted into hospitals for emergency treatment.
Some hospitals do not allow corona-positive patients. So, many people buy such fake certificates to get themselves admitted into those hospitals, the RAB-3 CO noted.
Health department officials said the country has 56 corona-testing laboratories that are authoriesed to issue such certificates.
Meanwhile, the busting of such gang took place in the wake of suspension of flights from Bangladesh by some countries after passengers from Dhaka were found corona positive.
In the latest incident, China's aviation regulator suspended a China Southern Airlines service - CZ392 - between Guangzhou and Dhaka, after 17 passengers on a flight were tested corona positive on Thursday.
The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) announced that China Southern service will be suspended for four weeks from June 22.
The service is the first to be cancelled under the regulator's new 'circuit-breaker' rules, introduced on June 4.
According to the rules, if passengers ranging between five and nine on a flight are tested coronavirus positive on arrival in China, the service will be suspended for a week.
If 10 or more passengers are found positive, the route will be suspended for four weeks.
Earlier, Japan and South Korea also suspended flights from Bangladesh, as passengers from Dhaka were found corona positive after their arrival in those countries.
Many suggested that a corona negative certificate holder may even be found positive after conducting the test. However, the authorities directed the departments concerned to find out whether or not fake certificates were prepared by professional forgers.
