A Dhaka Court on Wednesday granted bail to BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in one case and its Standing Committee Member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury in two cases filed with the Paltan Model Police Station in Dhaka.

Judge of Metropolitan Magaistrate Court in Dhaka, Tahmina Haque, passed the order after hearing separate bail petitions filed by Mirza Fakhrul and Amir Khosru.

Lawyers Md Asaduzzaman, Mohsin Miah, Iabal Hossain and Zainal Abedin Mesbah appeared in the court hearing on behalf of the BNP leaders.

A series of cases were filed with different police stations in the capital, accusing BNP and its affiliated organisations following the clashes during the BNP’s grand rally on October 28, 2023. Thousands of BNP leaders and activists were also arrested by the law enforcers in these cases.

A case was filed against BNP leaders with the Paltan Model Police Station on October 29 last year on charge of obstructing police in discharging duties and vandalism. Both Mirza Fakhrul and Amir Khosru secured bail in the case on Wednesday.

Another case was filed with the same police station on October 28 over the death of a police constable in a clash during the party's grand rally. Amir Khosru gets bail in that case from the court.

On October 29, the Detective Branch of police detained Fakhrul from his Gulshan residence around 9:25 am. On the same day, at around 10:00 pm, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Rashidul Alam sent him to jail, rejecting his bail prayer.

On November 3, detectives detained Khosru from the capital's Gulshan. Later on the day, he was placed on a six-day remand in connection with the case filed over the death of the police constable. He was later sent to jail.
