A man has succumbed to his wounds after losing three of his children to a fire sparked by a mosquito repellent coil at a home in Narayanganj’s Rupganj. Four of the six family members wounded in the incident have died now.

The latest victim, 42-year-old Md Babul, passed away at 4:40am on Thursday at the ICU of the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute in Dhaka, said Tariqul Islam, resident surgeon of the institute.

Babul had burns on 66 per cent of his body, according to bdnews24.com.

His daughter Taslima, 9, and sons Md Sohel, 20, and Ismail, 11, had died at the same hospital.

Taslima had burns on 63 per cent of her body, Sohel on 70 per cent, and Ismail on 55 per cent.

Babul and his family lived in the Dahargaon area of Rupganj’s Golakandail Union.

His wife Selina Begum, 38, and daughter-in-law Munni, 18, are also undergoing treatment at the institute after being caught in the fire.

The blaze erupted at the house around 11pm on Friday, according to Inspector Mizanur Rahman, chief of the Bhulta Police Outpost.

“The family of labourers lived in a tin shed,” he said. “They lit a mosquito coil at night before going to bed. The coil set the bed on fire. As everyone was asleep, it soon spread. The six of them inside the house were burnt. Neighbours rescued them and sent them to Dhaka.
