The body of a female journalist was recovered from the Hatirjheel Lake in Dhaka on Tuesday night.
The deceased was known as Sarah Rahanuma, 32, a newsroom editor of Gazi Television (GTV), according to local media reports.
Mohammad Sagor, a passerby, rescued her first and sent her to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) around 2:00 am where the duty doctor declared her dead.
Sarah resided in Kallyanpur area of the city. She was the daughter of Bakhtiar Shikder from Islam Bagh Krishnapur village in Sonaimuri upazila of Noakhali.
Sarah was married to Sayed Shuvro. He said that they had married in secret seven years ago without informing their families.
On the day of the incident, Sarah went to work but did not return home that night. Shuvro was informed around 3:00 am that she had jumped into the waters of Hatirjheel Lake. When he arrived at DMCH, he found her dead.
Denying any recent conflict between them, Shuvro mentioned that Sarah had been expressing a desire to separate from him for some time.
