Fire damages some transformers at Kaptai hydroelectric power substation

Some power transformers were damaged in a fire at Bangladesh’s only hydroelectric power substation in Rangamati’s Kaptai on Sunday.
Md Shahadat Hossain, station officer of the Kaptai Fire Service, the fire originated at around 7:30 am on Sunday. Firefighters brought the fire under control around 8:30 am.
Engineer ATM Abduzzaher, managing director of the Kaptai hydroelectric power station, said the power suddenly went out during a thunderstorm.
Then, a transformer in the switchyard of the substation caught on fire when the line was restarted from the power plant.
He said they sent a proposal to the authorities to form a probe committee to find the extent of the damage caused by the fire.
Besides, the engineer noted that the power supply to the national grid was normal.
