Five journalists from The Financial Express (FE) on Wednesday received the SME Foundation-ERF Media Award 2025.
They are Special Correspondents FHM Humayan Kabir, Syful Islam; Senior Reporters Rezaul Karim, Jahidul Islam; and Staff Reporter Farhan Fardaus.
Finance Advisor Dr Salehuddin Ahmed handed over the awards as chief guest at a ceremony that took place on Wednesday at the auditorium of the Economic Reporters’ Forum (ERF) at the Paltan Tower in the capital.
A total of 21 journalists from national newspapers, television channels, and online news portals were awarded for their reporting at the event jointly organised by the ERF and the SME Foundation.
Syful Islam received the award for his reporting on the significance of research and accurate statistics in driving the development of the SME sector.
Meanwhile, FHM Humayun Kabir highlighted the SME sector's vital role in reducing unemployment and generating new job opportunities in his reporting.
Rezaul Karim was awarded for his report on the challenges of marketing SME products and the strategies to overcome them.
Jahidul Islam received recognition for his report on the position of Bangladesh in SME development compared to neighbouring and developed countries, along with the recommendations.
Farhan Ferdous received the award for his report titled “Insufficient Support for the SME Sector:
Recommendations for Action in the Budget, ”which shed light on gaps in support and proposed policy measures to address them.
The event featured SME Foundation Chairperson Md Mushfiqur Rahman as the special guest, with remarks from ERF President Doulat Akter Mala and SME Foundation Managing Director Anwar Hossain Chowdhury, while ERF General Secretary Abul Kashem moderated the session.
