The Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre says there has been some improvement in the flood situation in several districts, including Feni, Cumilla, Moulvibazar and Habiganj.

However, there are concerns that the flooding may worsen in the Bandarban, Khagrachhari, and Cox’s Bazar districts, according to a notice signed by Executive Engineer Sardar Uday Raihan at 9am on Sunday.

The water levels of the main rivers in the northeast, east and southeast regions of the country have continued to decrease, the report said.

There was no significant rainfall in the eastern districts of Cumilla, Brahmanbaria and Feni or in the bordering region of India’s Tripura and its interior basins. As a result, the water levels of the upstream rivers are continuing to decline.

This has led to improvement in the existing flood situation in the low-lying areas of Moulvibazar, Habiganj, Feni, Cumilla, and Chattogram.

The flooding in Feni may improve in the next 24 hours, but it may also remain stable in some places.

The FFWC report quoted the meteorological agencies, saying there is no risk of heavy rainfall in the northeast of the country or its adjacent upstream areas in the next 24 hours.

The water levels of the Manu, Khwai, and Dholai rivers in the Moulvibazar and Habiganj districts may decrease and the flooding in the adjacent low-lying areas may continue to improve.

However, there are concerns of possible moderate to heavy rainfall in the east of the country and its adjacent upstream areas over the next 24 hours. The water level of the Gomti river in Cumilla may remain stable, as could the flooding situation in the country’s adjacent low-lying.

There is also a risk of heavy rainfall in the southeast region of the country and its adjacent upstream areas. This may lead to the Sangu, Matamuhuri, Halda, and other major rivers in the Bandarban, Khagrachhari, and Cox's Bazar districts swelling over this period.

The notification also said that the water level of the Brahmaputra-Jamuna river is decreasing, while the water level of the Ganga-Padma river is stable and is likely to remain so for the next 48 hours.

The water level of the Surma-Kushiyara River in the northeast is stable and is likely to remain so for the next 24 hours. The water level of the Teesta, Dharla and Dudhkumar rivers in the northern part of the country is also stable, and they may maintain a regular flow over the next 48 hours.
