Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre has predicted that the flood situation will improve as river water levels decrease.

According to the forecasting centre on Monday, water from 10 rivers was above the danger level at 21 points as of 9am.

Water levels were rising at 53 points, decreasing at 54 points, and steady at three points.

The previous day, water levels rose at 59 points and decreased at 49 points out of 110 stations.

In the next 48 hours, the flood situation in Kurigram, Jamalpur, Gaibandha, Bogura, Tangail, and Sirajganj districts along the Brahmaputra-Jamuna river may improve.

Brahmaputra water levels are decreasing, while the Jamuna river water is stable. in the next 48 hours, the water levels of both rivers may recede slowly.

Sarder Udoy Raihan, the executive engineer of the centre, said: "The overall flood situation in low-lying areas of the northeast may improve."

The forecasting centre said the water level of the main river in the northeastern part of the country is decreasing and this trend may continue for the next 48 hours.

Over the next 24 hours, the Teesta, Dharla, and Dudhkumar rivers in the north may see water levels recede, gradually improving flooding in parts of the Kurigram district.

Meanwhile, the Atrai River's water level at Baghabari point in the northwest and the Ghaghat River's level at Gaibandha point in the north may stabilise or decrease, respectively.

This could stabilise flood conditions in low-lying areas along the Atrai River in Sirajganj district and improve conditions near the Ghaghat River in Gaibandha district.

However, the Ganga-Padma river's water level is rising and is expected to continue increasing over the next 48 hours.

In the next 24 hours, the water levels of the Bangali, Upper Karatoa, Punarbhaba, Tangon, Ichamati-Jamuna, Atrai, Mahananda, and Chhoto Jamuna rivers in the northern and northwestern parts of the country may rise.

In the next 48 hours, the Padma River may also reach the danger level at Goalanda point.
