Police took former Awami League water resources minister and Thakurgaon-1 MP Ramesh Chandra Sen into custody.
Gulmaful Islam Mandal, chief of Ruhea Police Station, confirmed the matter at 11:59 pm on Friday.
However, the police say it was for security reasons, according to a bdnews24.com report.
Ramesh is a member of the Awami League’s Advisory Council.
His wife, Anjali Sen, says police took him from his home in the Ramnath area of Ruhea around 10:30 pm on Friday.
“Around 10 pm, a group of plainclothes men came to the house. The OC of Ruhea Police Station was with them. They said they would take my husband for his good and return him in a half hour. I urged them repeatedly not to take him as he was sick, but they took him anyway.”
“They did not listen to me and took him away by car. They did not say why they were taking him or where.”
OC Gulmaful said, “A team came from police headquarters. As far as I know, the police team took former MP Ramesh Chandra Sen into custody for security reasons. We only provided support. I do not know any more than that.”
Attempts were made to contact Thakurgaon Superintendent of Police Uttam Prasad Pathak regarding the matter, but he did not respond.
