Garment worker dies of injury after Ashulia clash

A garment worker by the name of Champa Khatun has died while being treated for injuries suffered in a clash at Dhaka’s Ashulia.

According to Mohammad Faruq, the chief of Dhaka Medical College Hospital Police Outpost, she died at the hospital’s ICU on Sunday morning.

Her death was recorded in the DMCH Register as a result of physical injuries.

On Oct 23, several garment workers were injured during a clash with the police on the Narsinghpur-Kashimpur road in Ashulia’s Banglabazar area.

Among the injured were 35-year-old Morsheda Begum, a printing operator at Generation Next Fashion Limited, 22-year-old Champa Khatun, a swing operator, Babita Akhter, and Halima Khatun, a worker of Susuka Garment.

Of them, Morsheda and Champa were admitted to DMCH for treatment after being shot.

The clash occurred on the third day of the strike as the workers of Generation Next Limited were demanding four months of back pay.
