Gazipur head-on train collision: Probe body formed, three suspended

Gazipur district administration has formed a three-member investigation committee as a passenger train and an oil tanker train collided head-on at Joydebpur in Gazipur on Friday.
Additional District Magistrate Md Matiur Rahman was made the head of the committee, Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Abul Fate Mohammad Shafiqul Islam told reporters while visiting the scene.
Shortly after the accident, Joydebpur Junction Station master Md Hashem, pointsmen Mostafizur Rahman and Saddam Hossain were suspended.
The accident – attributed to a wrong signal – would be looked into to determine if it was due to anyone’s negligence, Mr Islam said.
Earlier around 11am, eight bogies from the two trains derailed because of the collision.
Following the accident, several trains were stuck on the Dhaka-Tangail and Dhaka-Mymensingh railway routes.
Joydebpur Railway Station Master Hanif Mia informed reporters that of the two trains involved in the collision, five bogies of the cargo train and three of the passenger train went off tracks.
