The agitating government officials and employees will not demonstrate today (Wednesday) at Bangladesh Secretariat as they were assured by the high-ups of the administration that their demand would be considered.

They took the decision following a meeting on Tuesday with the senior secretary of the ministry of land ASM Saleh Ahmed in the conference room of the ministry.

The meeting decided that the secretaries in charge would present the demands of the employees regarding the repeal of the "Public Service (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025" to the cabinet secretary today (Wednesday).

After the meeting, land secretary ASM Saleh Ahmed told the media that they were given charge by the cabinet secretary to speak to the protesters.

He said that they talked to the protesters and learned about their demands.

He said that they (senior land secretary and other high ups) would inform the cabinet secretary about the demand of the government officials and employees today.

Nurul Islam, co-chairman of the Bangladesh Secretariat Officers-Employees Oikya (unity) Forum and president of a section of the Secretariat Officers-Employees United Council told the media that they would not hold any demonstration today (Wednesday).

Earlier the draft of the 'Public Service (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025', a revision of the 'Public Service Act, 2018', was approved during an advisory council meeting of the interim government last Thursday.

Later, the ordinance was issued by the President on Sunday evening (May 25, 2025).

The Government Employees (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025 has strict provisions for dismissal over four specific offences, sparking concerns among secretariat officials and employees. They termed the ordinance as a 'repressive and black law', demanding its withdrawal.

The Public Service (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025 allows the government to terminate employees for four types of disciplinary violation without initiating departmental proceedings -- merely by issuing a show-cause notice.
