Govt to declare Payra project as ‘national priority project’

The government has decided to declare the Payra project as ‘national priority project’ to accelerate the speed of its construction work.

Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan said, "We will declare the work of Payra port as national priority project within a week."

The minister said this while presiding over a meeting with Payra port authority at secretariat in Dhaka on Wednesday, reports BSS.

Acting Secretary of the ministry M Abdus Samad, Chairman of Payra Port Authority Commodore Jahangir Alam and senior officials of the shipping ministry, among others, were present at the meeting.

The dredging work for movement of water vessels on inland water route, which has been implementing by Bangladesh Navy, would be finished within two months, the report said.
