Purchase body approves import of 1.7m tonnes refined fuel oil

The cabinet committee on government purchase on Wednesday approved a number of proposals, including import of nearly 1.7 million tonnes of refined fuel oil from five countries.

Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal chaired the meeting. Cabinet division additional secretary Sayed Mahbub Khan briefed newsmen after the meeting.

The Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) will purchase 1.68 million tonnes of refined petroleum oil from six state-owned companies of five countries -- PTTT of Thailand, ENOC of the United Arab Emirates, Petrochina and UNIPEC of China, BSP of Indonesia, and PTLCL of Malaysia.

The BPC will import the fuel oil during the July-December period this year, which will cost the exchequer Tk 128.50 billion.

The meeting also approved a proposal to enhance the payment for Mr. West Jr, a legal consultant of Rupantarita Prakritik Gas Company Limited (RPGCL), who provides services for LNG-related affairs to the company.

The cabinet committee also approved two proposals of the ministry of commerce under which the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) will buy 8,000 tonnes of lentil from a local supplier namely Nabil Naba Foods Ltd at a cost of Tk 755.92 million.

The TCB will also buy 8.0 million tonnes of soybean oil from Meghna Edible Oils Refinary Ltd under open tender method, costing the exchequer Tk 1.311 billion.

The meeting also approved spending Tk 55.46 billion in five projects of Road Transport and Highways Division.

As per the approvals, a joint venture of CSCEC of China and Spectra Engineers of Bangladesh has been awarded a portion of construction work of Kewatkhali Bridge in Mymensingh at a cost of Tk 21.37 billion.

Also, approval was given to a joint venture of Mir Habibul Alam and Mahbub Brothers Pvt Ltd for a portion of construction work for expansion of Bogra-Natore highway at a cost of Tk 1.25 billion.

A joint venture of CPC of China and CRFG of China have been awarded a road development work in Dhaka-Sylhet corridor, involving Tk 10.82 billion, while the Chaina Railway First Group Company Ltd was given another portion of work of the same project, involving Tk 14.22 billion.

Also, a joint venture of NDE and HTBL, Bangladesh has been awarded an expansion work of a road in Tangail, involving Tk 2.86 billion.
