The number of unemployed people with undergraduate degrees stands between 2.5 million to 2.6 million in Bangladesh, says Youth Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan. Another 500,000 jobs will be created for this group in the next two years, he said.

He made the remarks to the media on Sunday as part of an update on the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Ministry of Labour and Employment in the 100 days since the interim government took office, reports bdnews24.com.

In these 100 days, 86,277 new jobs have been created under projects undertaken by six ministries and in the tax sector, the adviser said.

“The number we’re highlighting today is under the scope of six ministries. Of them, 2,468 are in the tax sector, while the remaining 83,809 are in the projector training sectors.”

“We hope that we will be able to do more than this in the future. We are taking steps to ensure that we can do more going forward. We have taken on the work of creating new jobs under the Department of Youth Development.”

Referring to the number of students who are maintaining traffic flow on the road, Asif Mahmud said: “A total of 700 are to join the traffic section. So far, 214 have started work.”

Md Rezaul Maksud Zahedi, youth and sports secretary, said: “The Department of Youth Development has set a target of training 264,090 people formally and informally so they can engage in work in the public sector, the private sector or become self-employed.”

“In the past 100 days, 19,452 people have been trained and another 52,115 are currently undergoing training.”

The new jobs were created under the Ministry of Public Administration, the Ministry of Labour and Employment, the ICT Division, BPSC, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Ministry of Women and Children’s Affairs, and in the tax sector, he said.
