Nobel laureate and Grameen Telecom Chairman Dr Muhammad Yunus on Sunday voiced his dismay at being made to stand in the defendants' iron cage in court.
“It is humiliating to stand in the iron cage made for the defendants. It has been made to humiliate; it has not been made to show respect. To take someone to the pinnacle of humiliation, it has been made. Today, I have reached the pinnacle of my cursed life. This is the first time I had to stand in the iron cage,” Dr Yunus told reporters after a three-and-a-half-hour hearing in a case over the embezzlement of Tk 252.2 million from dividends for the company’s employees.
“....Had friends seen me standing in the iron cage, they would have felt very sad,” he added.
The court of Dhaka 4th Special Judge Syed Arafat, which held the hearing, set June 12 for deciding on whether to indict Dr Yunus and others in the case.
