Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will hold a bilateral meeting with Ukrainian President Vlodymyr Zelensky on the sidelines of the Munich security conference.

The Prime Minister is scheduled to start for Germany to join the conference on Thursday morning, and she will reach home on February 19, Foreign Minister Dr Hassan Mahmud told a press briefing on Wednesday.

“The Ukrainian President sought the appointment, and our prime minister agreed to meet him,” the FM said.

Responding to a question, the Foreign Minister said that the meeting with Mr Zelensky will not impact the friendly relations between Bangladesh and Russia.

Russia is a very close friend of ours, and we have had long-standing ties since the days of our independence, he said.

Even during our liberation war, a Russian soldier was killed while sweeping mines in the Chittagong port, the minister added.

The Foreign Minister said that Bangladesh has always believed in the policy of maintaining friendly relations with all the countries of the world.

The minister said that Bangladesh wants an end to global conflict and to ensure global peace because, without ending global conflict, peace and economic prosperity cannot be achieved.

Responding to a question, the Foreign Minister said that the reputation of the displaced people from Myanmar will also be widely discussed at the Munich conference.

He pointed out that the situation in Myanmar poses a security threat to the entire region, and this should be resolved through the concerted efforts of all the regional countries.

He said that representatives from around 60 countries will take part in the Munich Conference.

Responding to a question, he said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will definitely visit India in the near future, but that is unlikely to happen before the national polls in India, which will be held in May this year.
