The Chamber Judge of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court has stayed for one month a High Court order, which banned battery-powered rickshaws from the Dhaka metropolitan area, for one month.
Earlier, the High Court bench of Justice Fatema Najib and Justice Sikder Mahmudur Razi banned auto-rickshaws from operating on city streets, citing public safety concerns, based on a writ petition by the Pedal-run Rickshaw Association.
On Monday, the state moved to appeal the High Court’s decision to ban battery-powered rickshaws.
