The ongoing heatwave affecting four divisions and 12 districts of the country is likely to spread further today and will continue till next Sunday (May 19), the met office said.
It also predicted a rise in day and night temperatures across the country for the next 72 hours from 9:00am today.
According to forecasts, a mild heatwave is flowing over Rajshahi, Rangpur, Khulna and Sylhet divisions along with Tangail, Faridpur, Madaripur, Kishoreganj, Netrakona, Rangamati, Cumilla, Noakhali, Feni, Cox's Bazar, Bhola and Patuakhali districts. The heatwave is likely to persist and spread.
Manowar Hossain, a meteorologist, said this heatwave will likely continue till next Sunday (May 19) but will not be as intense as in April.
After that, the temperature will decrease following a downpour, he forecasted.
