Imprisonment of journalist Rana: CIC briefs Arafat on probe report

Chief Information Commissioner Dr Abdul Malek has briefed State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Mohammad Ali Arafat on the investigation concerning the imprisonment of journalist Shofiuzzaman Rana by a mobile court.

The CIC briefed the state minister at a meeting at his office at the Bangladesh Secretariat in Dhaka city on Monday.

Arafat thanked the Information Commission for promptly submitting the report after launching investigation into the incident of jailing the journalist.

The state minister also reiterated the government's commitment to media freedom, according to a press release.

The minister emphasised the importance of people's right to information under the Right to Information Act.

The CIC informed that legal action would be taken and both parties involved would be summoned.

Information Commissioner Shahidul Alam Jhinuk led the investigation.
